be sure to buy your Lexus from Stevinson Lexus of San Diego (Stevinson Automotive Group owned by Kent Stevinson).  After weeks of trying to get Stevinson Lexus of San Diego to simply make good on this Lexus RX 300 LEMON...they made us to pay for it!  Click here for the full story.  Now, right after they replaced the transmission, the Stevinson Lexus of San Diego lemon clunks when changing gears and the steering wheel vibrates at speed. 

Other problems: the dashboard gear indicator hasn't worked for years, the antenna grinds when retracting, the plastic driver's seat floor cover has long been broken, the ashtray lid won't close, the back door hatch carpet cover continually falls off.  Visit this page often, we'll keep you posted.

MORAL:  Based on our experience, we now realize all Lexus cars do not meet their touted standards, nor will Stevinson Lexus of San Diego take ethical care of a customer when it sells a lemon...just our opinion.  If you must have a Lexus, try Kuni Lexus, but a BMW from Ralph Schomp may be a much better bet.

STEVINSON LEXUS (Stevinson Automotive Group):

At 61,000 miles, our car’s transmission died.  We bought the 1999 RX-300 new from Stevinson Lexus.  It has been maintained by them and is a very gently used vehicle (no off-road, etc.).  The warranty covers up to 70k miles or 6 years. 

Days before a 60k miles scheduled maintenance, we heard a high pitch noise.  A mechanic at Midas inspected and diagnosed a transmission pump problem.  Because of such low mileage, he called for a second opinion.  Aurora’s High Country Transmission service rep:  “Suspects pump will fail and they’ll need a new trans.”  The two agreed; this shouldn’t happen at 60k miles.   

What other mechanics had to say: 

Active Transmission & Gear ):  “You shouldn’t see problems before 150-160K miles.  A full replacement is roughly $2500.” 

Kuni Lexus service rep:  “I’ve not seen transmissions go on RX-300s ‘til at least 90-100K miles, if at all.” 

Francis at Cerritos Lexus, CA: “In 5 years, we’ve replaced maybe 3, none were RX-300s. “A transmission problem under 70k miles is very unusual.” 

Eric at Lexus Santa Rosa, CA: “If you were my customer and kept scheduled maintenance, I would go to bat for you to have the transmission replaced...we’ve only replaced a few, but with much higher mileage.” 

Original Stevinson Lexus estimate: $4200 for “job cost.”  Service Manager, Chris Konzen “discussed the matter with our General Mgr, (name).  They agreed to reduce the fee 50% so "out the door, your price is $1775.” 

Chris suggested we contact Corporate Customer Service.  Their rep, Carolyn, told us: “bottom line, the offer of a $2500 reduction is firm.” 

This is not a usually expected problem outside the time warranty, but an anomalous problem well within the mileage warranty.   Five professional opinions (above) substantiate a defective transmission.    

Lexus was hard lined, insisting we pay $1775 to replace the broken transmission.  To this day, no one at Stevinson Lexus has explained the actual problem.  Ethics dictate Stevinson Lexus make good on this faulty part, but they have not.  Be warned about this ethically challenged company.
